"I stopped her there in the main area and just said, hey, will you marry me? I got only me. I don't have a ring, I don't have anything, but I love you so much, and I just want you to be with me the rest of my life.

"He was the most even tempered man. Such a fine person. It took her a bit to fall in love, but when she did, she fell hard. I felt proud from the day they were married until the day I lost him! I hope my children and grandchildren have a marriage filled with kindness, patience, and love.

I never thought I'd be able to experience peace again, but Mary made me feel very safe. I'll never forget that. Gerald always greets me in the morning with "Good morning, Love!" and gives me a wink when we are sharing an inside joke or funny moment. We would do it all over again!

"You know, I've been talking to God and He thinks you're as wonderful as I think you are. I feel like He is telling me you're the one!

As we are in the final season of our lives, I treasure the times when we simply walk hand in hand, helping each other to the car or into a store or whatever. Knowing we are still there, holding each other up is such a comfort. I dread the day when one of us is no longer here.

"And it's always been our understanding that they had me to try to save the marriage.

What I missed most after he died was that I lost half my team. I missed talking over things before I had to make a decision or solve a problem, or just knowing that the other person was there for me.

"I think it was the fact we liked each other for a few years and then as we got older we realized it was more than like and love. It was a slow build and has grown into a lifetime.

Why we built this
The Marriage Hall of Fame is a growing archive of real couples who’ve been married 45 years or more. But this collection isn’t about antiquated ideas or perfect stories. It’s about how regular, flawed people show up for one another—through change, through challenge, and through the quiet, everyday acts that say: I’m here.
We believe love is action. It’s inside jokes, shared routines, long drives, and helping each other through hard things. It’s the kind of love that doesn’t always look dramatic—but becomes something enduring.
These stories aren’t just here to honor the past. They’re here to inspire hope for what love can still become. To show younger generations that there are real stories all around them that show lifelong marriage still exists.
